On the one hand, there’s Big Brother…

Security-book-cover…and on the other, there’s “Security.” The first half of this mystery/thriller reads like the script to a horror movie, and the second half reads like a stream of consciousness philosophical rambling, with the middle transition serving up a steamy romance. We’re sure to have an interesting discussion this evening at Napper Tandy’s! Meet us on the left-hand-side bar at 7:30 pm.

Station-eleven-book-coverFor November, we’ll be reading another member-chosen book: “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel. This National Book Award Finalist, and winner of many other book awards, is science fiction-lite set in a post-apocalyptic world. The story moves back and forth through time, exploring the world before, during, and after the collapse of civilization. What does the sudden heart attack and death of a Hollywood Shakespearean¬† actor have to do with the onset of a sudden pandemic flu? And how can a future traveling troupe of Shakespearean actor/musicians save both art and humanity? And what’s the deal with this grave-digging prophet guy? This novel about truth, beauty, and survival looks good.

Copies of the book and audiobook are available to pick up at the Reference Desk. The ebook and e-audiobook are available through Overdrive, but you’ll want to place a hold soon in order to get it in time. We meet on Tuesday November 22 at 7:30 pm – see you then!

Books & Brews

We know you’re all about the titles in Titles on Tap, but just in case you want a deeper exploration of what’s on tap, you’ll want to join us for a new and exciting collaboration between the Morrill Memorial Library and Castle Island Brewing Co. Over two consecutive Wednesday nights in November, we’ll have Books & Brews programs, first at the library (33 Walpole St in Norwood) and then at Castle Island Brewing Co. (31 Astor Ave in Norwood, just off of Route 1). Don’t forget to sign up for these programs before they fill up!
