Biblio-mystery-drama for the win!

I just want to say thanks again to everyone who came out a rainy February night to celebrate our one-year anniversary as a book club! We couldn’t do this without you all, and here’s looking at another awesome year šŸ™‚

ifonawintersnightOur March title will be “If on a winter’s night a traveler” by Italo Calvino. This is a bit of a throwback, written in Italian in 1979 and translated to English in 1981, but stay with me here. This is a book about you, as a character (yup, you’re part of this story!), reading this book. As you’re reading, you realize there’s something wrong with this book. Chapter One again? What’s going on here?? You set out to solve this mystery, becoming more and more a part of the book as you go. Think choose-your-own-adventure before those books were popular šŸ™‚

Does this story sound familiar? Does it maybe sound like the recent JJ Abrams novel, “S.”? That’s because JJ Abrams ripped off this novel, hardcore. We don’t need posers, we’ll take the original, thanks. Vintage, baby.

Copies are available at Reference, so pick one up and join us on March 22nd at 7:30 pm in Napper Tandy’s!

A billion husbands are about to be replaced.

Happy one year, Titles on Tap! Can you believe we’ve been meeting for a whole year? Thank you so much to everyone who’s joined us to discuss off-beat books at Napper Tandy’s – we couldn’t have a book club without you, and you’ve all made this a wonderful experience. It makes my little librarian heart go pitter-pat.Ā  šŸ™‚

beautiful-you-cover-officialSo in true “stories shaken, not stirred” fashion, we’ll be celebrating the month of Valentine’s Day with a somewhat un-Valentine’s book, “Beautiful You” by Chuck Palahniuk. You may recognize Chuck as the author of “Fight Club” (although we won’t talk about that…)

“Beautiful You” is a science fiction novel that takes a swing at the “Fifty Shades of Grey” genre. A sex toy company that tries to take over the world by controlling women – gasp! Whatever shall we do?! Heads up, this novel has a heck of a lot of satire, so take it with a grain of salt. Reviewers seem to either love or hate this book, so let’s see what we make of it! I don’t think we need to have read “Fifty Shades” in order to appreciate this book, but I may pick up a copy of “Fifty Shades” just for fun.Ā  :-pĀ  And don’t worry, “Beautiful You” is way shorter than our January title!

Pick up a copy of the book or audiobook at the Reference Desk and join us on Tuesday February 23 @ 7:30 pm in the left-hand-side bar of Napper Tandy’s. Happy Valentine’s Day!
