Rule 1: Abandon truth. Rule 2: Write a popular book. Do not waste energy making it a good book.

howibecameafamousnovelistAnd so goes Pete Tarslaw’s list of rules for how to get a book on the bestseller list in our latest Titles on Tap read, “How I Became a Famous Novelist” by Steve Hely. The list itself is hilarious and I can’t wait to read the rest of the book (Cards Against Humanity fans – after reading Rules 1 and 2, don’t you want to add: “Step 3. Profit”?) This sharp satire pokes fun at the publishing industry, authors who seem to live on the bestseller list, snobbish book reviewers, and the reading public that eats it all up. The author is a former writer for The Late Show with David Letterman, Last Call with Carson Daly, American Dad!, 30 Rock, and The Office, so I have high hopes!

There are copies available to pick up at the Reference Desk, so pick up a copy and join us Tuesday November 24th at 7:30 pm! It may be your best defense going into the holiday season.

This will be our last meeting of 2015, since the fourth Tuesday in December is cutting awful close to Christmas and is smack in the middle of Hannukah, plus we’ll all probably be super busy. So, we’ll skip December and meet again on the fourth Tuesday of January 2016, the 26th. Stay tuned for the January title, we’ll have copies soon. 🙂
