Parents both fertile and feral

breedHow does Titles on Tap celebrate October?  With horror and science fiction of course! The barbs of satire aimed at wealthy Manhattan socialites and the fast pacing don’t hurt, either.

“Breed” is the debut novel by Chase Novak, which is a pseudonym for Scott Spencer. Novak plays out our fears of genetic engineering gone wrong with the Twisdens, a well-healed couple from the Upper East Side who make one last attempt at having children. The radical infertility treatment from a creepy Slovenian doctor does result in twins, but does…something…to the parents. Told mostly from the perspective of 10 year-old twins Adam and Alice, “Breed” tracks the financial and evolutionary fall of the Twisdens – and the possible repercussions of the pursuit of designer offspring.
